Archival Research

The Problem

The Museum of Innovation & Sicence (miSci) wanted to create an Exhibit to explore the deep culinary heritage of New York State and believed their archives would be a treasure trove of information.  How could they efficiently review the mass of documents to produce take aways that could be the underlying basis of the Exhibit?

Impact

Creating a strategic partnership with Nowigence, the creators of Lille.ai., the miSci-Lille partnership empowered museum patrons and visitors to explore centuries of knowledge stored within historical documents and manuscripts.

The Solution

The new Exhibit “Ground to Gourmet: Tracing the Origins of the Foods We Love” opened on September 12, 2023. It blended history, science, and art while explored the deep culinary heritage of New York State. With interactive displays, artifacts, and art visitors were transported on a journey through the fascinating origins of the food we cherish. Ground To Gourmet is produced by a collaboration between miSci and the Schenectady County Historical Society as well as with cultural content from the Iroquois Museum (Howes Cave, NY).  Building on the significant interest in artificial intelligence, a highlight of Ground to Gourmet featured an AI Research Agent to dig deep into the shelves of archives transporting visitors on a journey through the fascinating origins of the food history past and present.
